After thoughts on The Inmate (spoiler)

Coffeandinmatebook I uploaded my reading journal about the Inmate yesterday. I don't often write such a long journal, but this one was full of investigation and made my brain overwork even at night.

I've finished the book yesterday morning, and since then the thoughts of it still linger.

Spoiler from here

I realize, I forgot to mention a few things about the book yesterday and spared some time to get back to writing.

First of all. I just can't let it go, how easily the justice system seemed to let loose a person who's been serving a life sentence for multiple murders. I mean, in real life there is a lot more needed to get convicted. And he basically had every evidence against him, plus the testimonies.

But when Brook decided to change her testimony, they just believed it straight away. There was no actual new evidence to prove that Tim's done anything apart from the body they have found in his basement, and Brooke's word at this point in no means matters.

Why? Because she stated the opposite of this 11 years earlier and it never occurred to her that Shane - the father of her child - might be innocent. Except when she met him again.

In the job that she wouldn't have anyway.

Why? I'm not sure about their state in the USA but in Canada there are strict rules that are preventing victims to contact the inmates. No letters, no visits, no jobs at all.

Also, I find it fascinating that Shane and his mum thought that Brooke will testify against Tim to get Shane out of prison. Even is Tim was a murderer, if I'm Brooke that still doesn't change the fact that I felt his body while I was strangled. And since she's still having the nightmares, these feelings are still very much vivid.

I still hate the book for killing Shane, but not as much as I did when I had to take a break for a day to enjoy my own little brain working on this book. I still can't wrap my head around this whole story.
