Social media journey so far - 25th October
I officially left my main social media accounts in June.. after moving my website to nekoweb - not importing it because I had no idea that import was a thing on neocities..
So I made my registration status.cafe that I've seen on many personal websites (and this is where I found cozy.talk after the 1 month waiting period - There is something heart-warming in that one mount of waiting for someone to manually accept a registration)
So I registered here on the 22th of June and so did I on mastodon. Out of all the websites I've tried cozy was the most social. It looks like people here just understand that if another person posts something, there is a human being on the other side. It is an important quality which other most online spaces lack.
Let me admit, I rarely look at my mastodon. But I'm keeping it just in case I find interesting people to follow so I can just collect them there. I'm fascinated by the activity pub idea and following accounts across websites. This would absolutely solve the main problem with the meta monopoly and the fact that the internet is shrinking into that tiny box that meta allows us to use. But it doesn't...
(Do any of you have a mastodon account for me to follow? You're all people worth to follow so😏 I dare to ask)
I deleted instagram's app last week. I adored that shit for 12 years. It provided me a place to share a snapshot of my whatever I was doing. Which is something no one actually cares about, but I did it anyway. I loved the stupid square photos and how a perfectly boring Sunday sunbeam can be a post there. But lately it became suffocating - my personal account. That algorithm monster basically never shown me the cozy people I followed. No more renovating a house or a walk around the suburbs of Japan. No more of that witch who shared all the sketchy satanist looking photos... only politics and brain rot memes. And the 4 hours of my day that I don't even remember because I was just commenting under posts I didn't care about, causing me to get more of that terrible content. Oh yes and that weird "friend" from work that is trying to convince everyone that they are murderers and monsters for eating meat. It's bloody hard to get rid of a coworker on social media without poisoning the environment where I'm spending 10 hours a day, you know.
So one day I posted that photo.. and the next, I decided there won't be any more. I tried to export the uploaded photos so I can have my own gallery but I only received my last year's content and my laptop wasn't even able to handle most of that hideous format (I know, I could do something but I won't it's not the complete archive. Waste of effort)
However it is. I don't actually miss my personal instagram... but I do miss my gaming instagram that didn't do anything much wrong T_T basically I just posted a photo of my game and a rant. And I found and otome community with seasonly challenges and people actually read my posts and commented. Their 24 hour stories informed me about the game they were playing and how did they like it (I've spent a few hundred on strictly discounted -actual cartridges- games in about 6 months and rarely had time to finish a game... but they made me want them so baaad). And their post was about their set ups or a review of the latest game they finished.
It was a bit of a fresh air to be around those people on instagram after my personal account. They were active and discussions weren't rare.
However... I deleted the app last week. No peeking into the otome community anymore. At least not on the smart phone.
I'm doing well. I haven't seen a reel in at least 4 months apart from those hamsters on someone else's screen (I watch youtube but the shorts are deliberately disabled) and surprisingly I never missed being numbed by the reels. Not even for a second. I think I only miss making them🫣
